Many times over the years my wife and I have walked on the raised street cross walk over the Las Vegas Strip on our way to the MGM Grand watching the KA promotion on the MGM Jumbo Tron saying to each other, “we’ve got to see that show!”

We finally did last weekend and are we glad. This truly is one of the greatest spectacles put on by Cirque du Soleil.

We will be heading back for more shows like KA this summer as there is some great summer promotions running on Cirque du Soleil tickets.

There is nothing not to like about this show. The music, the dancing, the acrobatics are magnificent. However, I would recommend that you read the plot of the story prior to attending KA. It is a bit like attending an opera. It is best to know the story ahead of time just as it is with a foreign language opera.

KA is a story about two twins of a fantasy culture that become separated and go through a series of trials and adventures until they become reunited. Along the way they come to understand the power of fire known as KA. This power can be used for good or evil… to build or destroy.

The twins are brother and sister and the children of the Emperor and Empress. Their society is based loosely on ancient Chinese culture with a blend of many cultures from throughout the world.

The story opens with the twins coming home by ship to a grand celebration of their return. The celebration proceeds with acrobats, musicians and dancers. The celebration comes to a tragic end when the Emperor and Empress are murdered by a band of archers and the royal palace is burned to the ground.

As the palace burns, the twins make their escape. The twins are separated in the escape and the sister twin escapes by boat which sinks.

The sinking of the boat sets up an incredible drowning scene in which the royal’s nurse maid appears to be dropping and drowning in the water.  You will think you are watching them perform in water. This scene is that convincing.

The eerie silence of the water is created by blue light and the accompaniment of a cello and piano duet. The Twin sister dives into the water and drags the nursemaid to safety in one of the most incredible acrobatic performances you will ever see in a Cirque du Soleil show.

The action builds with the evil head of the archers, his human bone grinding machine and his constant pursuit of the Twins and their entourage. They avoid capture by climbing cliffs, using a human powered flight machine and other fantastic feats and inventions.

In the end, the twins are reunited and become the leaders of a revolt in which they inspire others to defeat slavery and tyranny.

The show is unique from most other Cirque du Soleil shows that are based on a series of scenes for the purpose of displaying the skill of the performers. KA is a show where the skill and talent of the performers enhance the storyline.

The staging of KA is also quiet unique as it appears to take place floating in the air. There is no stage, but rather a series of rising, lifting and spinning platforms on which the show is performed.

The stage becomes a prop unto itself as it raises vertically to create a great cliff to be climbed or turned into a sailing vessel.

This show is for all ages although it could be a bit frightening for children under twelve.

I’m kicking myself for the putting off seeing this show for so long. This is a “don’t miss” show in Vegas.

Back in the early days of Las Vegas and long before it became one of the most popular tourist destination in the world, hotel choices were few and far between. Today, all that has changed. And it has changed in dramatic fashion.

These days the Vegas resorts are bigger and better than ever. As Las Vegas continues to grow in popularity as a vacation destination, so too have the resorts. They’ve increased in number and size, as well as in the range of choices available.

You could choose from the many accommodations on and around the strip and have a great time. But the hardest decision to make today is settling in on one resort. The best choices these days for comfort and amenities in a beautiful and luxurious setting include the Bellagio, Wynn, Encore, Venetian, Palazzo, Trump, Ceasars Palace and Mandalay Bay. But there’s also the MGM Grand, Luxor and Mirage that are right up there too.

The major Las Vegas hotels of today are massive in size, which leads to an almost never-ending variety. Most have multiple bars, coffee shops and restaurants. The MGM Grand for example, features 17 different eateries, including those carrying the names of world-class chefs like Emeril Lagasse and Wolfgang Puck.

Resort casinos are spacious, elegantly-decorated rooms with plush seating in a comfortable environment. Every major hotel also boasts at least one pool, relaxing spa, exclusive shopping and an unequaled quality of entertainment.

There is little doubt that when you think hotels Las Vegas - you are thinking of much more than just a place to sleep. These mammoth resorts one of the big reasons why Vegas has become such a popular destination for vacation and business travelers alike.

On this trip to Las Vegas my wife and I were given the opportunity to see Zumanity the adult’s only show at New York New York. This is the second Cirque du Soleil we have seen together. This first was Love at the Mirage.

The show definitely had all the elements you would expect from Cirque du Soleil and a whole lot more. And I do mean a whole lot more.

Zumanity is a set of performances depicting at times explicit, but not pornographic, representations of human sexuality. You will be most comfortable attending this show with your spouse or significant other as long as the two of you are at ease discussing sex.

Don’t make the mistake of attending this show with your grown children. Either you will be very uncomfortable or I guarantee your children will be.

The acrobatic performances are what I expect from any Cirque du Soleil show. The athleticism and dance is top notch. And the live music performance is one of the best of any show on the strip. Not having recorded music is a real plus for any Vegas show.

I was not aware that the show would be as sexually frank as it was. My wife and I have attended some of the traditional Vegas topless show girl reviews and I that was more of what I was expecting.

Despite the show being a little more than I expected, I wasn’t too uncomfortable with most of the sexual content of the show.  However, my wife and I were pretty uncomfortable with the 2 guys kissing in the cage match wrestling scene.

Be forewarned if you attend this show it goes far beyond being a Cirque du Soleil show with a little extra skin. Nearly every type of human sexuality will be depicted and some of it will make you laugh…some of it will entertain and some of it will make you squirm.

My wife and I went down and checked in for the Blog World Expo that begins tomorrow morning. We met up with a couple of friends and fellow bloggers from Denver, Brad and Jeannine. After we registered, all four of us met up for a bite to eat and at some drinks around 4pm.

Betsi and I headed back over to the Monorail station at the convention center around 5:15pm. We were trying to get back to Bally’s to get dressed and head over to pick up our tickets to Zumanity at Will Call by 6:30.

When we went to the Monorail station, the train was sitting with the doors open. A bit unusual we thought. We boarded and sat there for about 20 minutes before the train left the station.

The train arrived at the Imperial Palace stop. One stop before Bally’s. We were told everyone heading south needed to get off as the northbound side was shut down. The North bound train malfunctioned and was shut down until it could be repaired. Both directions would run from one side…  north fist then south.

Anyway, there was no way to get to New New York in time for the show. We were disappointed as we have seen other Cirque du soleil shows and loved them. I wanted to to review the show for you. Oh well, another time.

Tomorrow, I will attend the Blog World Expo and Betsi will hang out at the hotel and shop.

Getting ready to head out to Blog World Expo in Vegas today. I hope to develop some good contacts from the blogging world and learn a few new things. Hugh Hewitt will be hosting his radio show from at the convention center. I would like to get a chance to meet him. 

We will be staying a Bally’s, one of our favorites hotels. We got pretty decent prices on the airfare on Southwest since our last trip in February. Southwest made a gamble on jet fuel futures when it cost a few bucks a gallon. Their gamble is paying off by keeping their fares low and no baggage fees.

We’ll probably check out a few shows this trip. We really liked Momma Mia the last time we were there, so we are thinking about going again.
