Cold Time in Vegas
January 23rd, 2008 . by Robb CheuvrontSeems like it has been a bit since I last posted. My bad.
We took a trip to Vegas last week for my 50th birthday. This was an all comp trip for the most part. We stayed at the Flamingo.
As I have mentioned before, we have a Harrah’s Total Rewards card. We earned Platinum status last year which keeps the comp offers coming in on a fairly regular bases both by email and snail mail. One of these days I will have to sit down write about how you earn points for comps and offers on the card.
For this trip we were able to combine my birthday offer of 2 nights with one of the regular quarterly offerings of 2 nights free in January. Then, I had some flight miles with US Air to take care of the Air Travel.
The drawback on the the flight miles was that we had to depart from Colorado Springs and lay over in Phoenix. Leaving from Colorado Springs is no big issue as Denver International Airport (DIA) or the Springs airport is about the same drive from our home in the Southwestern foothills of the Denver Metro area. So, instead of the usual 1:20 minute direct flight… it was about 3 and a half hours of travel time. But, it was FREE!
My Wife at first gave the the room at the Flamingo a C-. The decor was mid 70’s with a hideous blue carpet. Furnishings were a bit warn, but the room was big, and as usual at the Flamingo, the bed was very comfortable. The room had a decent view of the center strip from the Belllagio fountains to Caesar’s. By the end of the trip my wife warmed up to the room and it locations and gave it a C+ or possible B-.
The day we left Colorado, the temperature was around 9 degrees and expected to remain around the same. There was a bit a of a cold snap in Las Vegas as well with freezing temperatures in the morning in the low 30’s and never getting much above 57 during the day. But, still warmer than what we left behind at home.
